Shadow of a doubt riverdale tropes3/1/2024 The biggest complaint I can raise against this final installment is that it becomes a bit too exposition laden for its own good in places, and in many ways it hearkens back to his Battle for the Cowl scripting. His pencil work here is as enjoyable as ever, with clear storytelling and more than one full page spread that deserves not just a second but a third look as well. Perhaps the only thing that kept me from laughing at the delivery was the fantastic art that Daniel delivered to accompany the reveal. It utilizes one of the biggest unmasking tropes in the book and as a result it comes off as more Scooby Doo than Dark Knight. In fact, the only complaint I have regarding the reveal is in the way it was executed on the pages themselves. He's wisely left clues throughout his arc that could point to a variety of individuals, and the eventual reveal didn't disappoint. The way in which Daniel manipulates the character's mental turmoil certainly caused me to second guess my prediction as to the character's identity. The issue opens as Black Mask struggles with his own sanity in a manner not too dissimilar from Norman Osborn's recent personal psychological struggles.
